Welcome to the Critical Care Response Team (CCRT) Course.
This is a proprietary two-day course, offered by the LHEARN Centre at Lakeridge Health.

Day One: Virtual, Via Microsoft Teams
Day Two: In-person at Lakeridge Health Oshawa

Prerequisites:

1. Completion of all online CCSO CCRT learning modules.
2. Nurse or respiratory therapist joining or considering applying for a CCRT team.
3. Critical care or acute care clinical experience.
4. Current competency in advanced cardiac life support (highly recommended).

Learning Objectives:

1. Describe the rationale and role of the CCRT to health care providers, patients and families.
2. List the hospital CCRT Calling Criteria.
3. Perform a rapid and focused initial patient assessment and an accurate triage recommendation using the Ontario CCRT Triage Scale (A/B/C).
4. Implement approved medical directives to initiate urgent diagnostic and therapeutic measures for new CCRT consults.
5. Use SBARR and other strategies to effectively communicate with the CCRT physician, most responsible physicians, floor staff, patients and families.
6. Activate in-hospital emergency procedures, such as Code STEMI and Code Stroke, as required.
7. Identify opportunities for hospital system improvement leading to improved patient safety.
8. Complete the necessary hospital documentation tools for CCRT consults and follow-up visits.

Hands-on Skill Station: Point of care laboratory testing
CCRT Consultation Simulation: Group Scenarios
