PALS Renewal

Welcome to the Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Renewal course.

Please ensure you are studying the 2015 PALS provider manual. The manual can be purchased through the Heart and Stroke Foundation.

The PALS provider renewal course is designed to teach lifesaving skills for pediatric resuscitation. You will practice as both, a team member and a team leader in either pre-hospital or hospital settings. The PALS provider renewal course covers extensive material in a short time (1-day session). It is highly recommended  that students prepare for the course in advance and are proficient in the following:

  • Performing high-quality BLS skills through the use of the 2015 Guidelines Update for CPR and ECC
  • Identify—on a monitor and/or paper tracing—the following rhythms and rhythm disturbances:
    • Normal sinus rhythm
    • Sinus bradycardia
    • Sinus tachycardia
    • Supraventricular tachycardia
    • Ventricular tachycardia
    • Asystole
    • Ventricular fibrillation.
  • Demonstrate a basic understanding of the essential drugs used in the management of:
    • Cardiac arrest
    • Bradycardia
    • Tachycardia
  • Be able to combine ECG rhythm recognition and pharmacology

Please note: If a student does not successfully complete the recertification course they will be required to attend a full PALS provider course (2 days).

 Pre-course requirements
